High Desert Endurance Rides I, II, & III
make up the Triple Crown Series.
HIGH DESERT Classic I (HDC I) is held in April and
the ride begins at the base
of the Stillwater Mountain Range. HIGH
DESERT II & III (HDC II & III) are held in
October at Fort Churchill State Park.
Same horse and rider teams completing
all three rides will be awarded blankets.
HDC I's trail contains scenic canyon climbs up desert washes, past
natural springs
and
windmills/stock tanks. The trail runs through the
historic ruins of La Plata, an early county seat of
Churchill County
and
takes
in beautiful views of the Lahontan Valley.
HDC II
& III's trail consists of
scenic canyon climbs, desert washes,
natural springs, stock tanks and dry lake terrain. The second day goes into the hills,
around a dry section of
Lake Lahontan (where you may see bands of wild mustangs).
As with any Nevada ride, there are rocks as well as sand, so plan
accordingly.
